Lambeth Council is delivering a range of improvements to Larkhall Park, to make it more welcoming to users. The park has suffered from under-investment and in places, the infrastructure presents a health and safety hazard. It has also experienced some incidents of anti-social behaviour.

The Capital programmes team has engaged with park staff and Friends of Larkhall Park and have also undertaken site visits to set out a budget for a programme of works to improve the park.

The works will be carried out under various packages and when all are complete this will dramatically improve the health and safety issues in this park.

The work packages are:

  • Tree works – this includes carrying out a tree survey to find out the condition of the trees in the park. Follow any recommendations from the report to improve the condition of the trees and arrange overgrown trees to be cut back to improve the lighting along the pathways.

  • Works to leaning brick wall – The brick boundary wall at Priory Grove entrance is leaning into the park and has been propped for safety. The works will investigate the condition of the wall and carry out rectification works to make the wall safe.

  • Under 5’s playground – carry out works to repair the surface of the playground where it has been damaged.

  • Landscaping works around the Café – These works will improve the look and provide better access around the café area. It will also open up the site removing overgrown vegetation and reduce anti-social behaviour

The safety concerns identified in the junior play area have all been rectified through a package of works that included replacing large areas of worn and shrunk wetpour surfacing where multiple trip hazards had developed.

We addressed an area of subsidence under part of the safety surfacing, replaced a basket swing badly damaged by dogs, missing ropes on the multiplay and repaired a plastic slide which was worn out and splitting. We also addressed issues with one of the gates. These works were completed in the summer of 2019.

The remaining repair works will be completed by Summer 2020. Please follow this page for updates.
