Voting by post or proxy

If you’re going to be away on polling day you can apply to vote by post or proxy (where someone votes on your behalf).

Apply for a new postal vote

To apply to vote by post, you need to download, complete and submit an application form.

5pm on the 11th working day before polling day is the deadline to:

  • submit your application to vote by post at a particular election
  • cancel or make any changes to your voting method, if you have an existing postal or proxy vote

Before you submit your application form, make sure you've included your:

  • full name
  • address for ballot papers to be sent to
  • date of birth
  • signature – this must be in wet ink (electronic signatures are not valid)

This information is required by law for the security of your postal vote. Your application will not be valid without it.

If you cannot give a consistent signature, the Electoral Registration Officer may be able to grant a waiver for this requirement. Please contact us if you need to apply for a waiver.

Download and submit your postal vote application form
