Voting by post or proxy

Voting by post means we will send you a posting voting pack so you can complete your ballot paper at home and return it in the post when elections take place. Voting by proxy means someone you trust voting on your behalf.

Apply for a new postal vote

If you are not already registered to vote, you must register before applying for a postal vote. The deadline to register to vote at an election is midnight, 12 working days before polling day. Register to vote online.

To apply to vote by post, you need to download, complete and submit an application form.

5pm on the 11th working day before polling day is the deadline to:

  • submit your application to vote by post at a particular election
  • cancel or make any changes to your voting method, if you have an existing postal or proxy vote

Mayor of London and London Assembly elections - 6 May 2021

The deadline to apply for a postal vote, or make changes/cancel an existing postal or proxy vote for these elections has now passed.

If you are unable to attend your polling station on Thursday 6 May you should appoint a proxy to vote on your behalf.

The first date that you can apply for replacements for lost or spoilt postal ballots is Thursday 29 April. To find out how to do this, see our Mayor of London and London Assembly elections page.

The deadline for applying for replacements for lost or spoilt postal ballots is 5pm on polling day, Thursday 6 May.

Submitting your application form

Before you submit your application form, make sure you've included your:

  • full name
  • address for ballot papers to be sent to
  • date of birth
  • signature

This information is required by law for the security of your postal vote. Your application will not be valid without it.

If you cannot give a consistent signature, the Electoral Registration Officer may be able to grant a waiver for this requirement. Please contact us if you need to apply for a waiver.
