Voting if you live overseas

If you’re a British citizen living overseas you may be able to register to vote at UK Parliamentary elections and other national polls.

To apply, you must be a British citizen currently living abroad and meet one of the following criteria:

  • You have been registered to vote in the UK within the previous 15 years.
  • You were too young to register to vote when you left the UK.

Renewing your registration

Once you're registered, you must renew your registration as an overseas voter every year as long you're still eligible.

We'll send you a letter to remind you to renew your registration each year.

We'll remind you by email if you tell us your email address when you register.

If you do not renew your registration, you’ll be removed from the electoral register and will need to make a new application to register to vote.
