School Streets

Lambeth Council has introduced timed closures on streets around schools in the borough to make the journey to school safer for pupils.

How do School Streets work?

School Streets introduce temporary restricted vehicle access to the streets around school gates, creating pedestrian and cycle zones during drop-off and pick-up times. These zones are supported by signage at each entry and closure point, informing drivers of the timed restrictions in place.

School Streets only operate during school term dates.

Residents and businesses with vehicles registered to an address within the closure zone, Blue Badge holders who require access, can apply for an exemption and once given will be able to access the School Street during its hours of operation.

Emergency vehicles will still be able to enter the School Street at all times.

Other motor vehicles, including vehicles driven by parents to drop-off or pick-up children at the school gates, taxis, delivery drivers and school staff will be restricted during these times.

Vehicle access is restricted by way of additional enforcement, including physical barriers and/or Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras.  Penalty Charge Notices (PCN) may be issued to non-eligible vehicles entering the zones.
