There are no charges to submit an application for permission to work on a tree.
What you need to know...
If you choose to download an application form for your submission, you should also read the guidance notes for works to trees subject to a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) and/or Notification of Proposed Works to Trees in Conservation Areas (PDF, 184KB).
Anyone proposing to cut down or carry out work to a tree in a conservation area is required to give the council six weeks' prior notice.
Even in an emergency, you should keep a careful record of what advice you sought and what action was taken, so that we know why the tree was removed.
Applications proposing the removal of trees or works to trees, either protected by Tree Preservation Orders or included within conservation areas, will be advertised only by way of a site notice displayed immediately outside the application property or site.
Other forms of consultation, especially individual neighbour notification, will only take place in exceptional circumstances.
Anyone can apply to carry out works to trees, and where an application is submitted by a neighbour of the site where the tree works are proposed, we will use our best endeavours to ensure that the owner or occupier of the land on which the tree stands is informed, and given a chance to comment.
