Lambeth VAWG Strategy

We dedicate our VAWG strategy to those who had their lives taken from them, and we commit to making Lambeth a safer borough for everyone.

Between 2016, when we published our second Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) strategy, and 2021 when we launched our third, 5 Lambeth residents had their lives taken from them because of VAWG.

We know that more needs to be done.

Our third strategy builds on the work in previous strategies and sets out our vision, approach and most importantly, our commitments to tackling VAWG in Lambeth. We have reviewed our previous actions and examined the data available to us to understand our successes, gaps and lessons learned.

Our strategic priorities

Our consultation has told us what our strategic priorities should be, and these will shape the work of the Safer Lambeth Partnership in tackling Violence Against Women and Girls.

Our priorities for 2021-2027 are:

From the earliest stages of design and development we have worked with those who have lived experience of VAWG.

Experts by experience are best placed to advise on what solutions, support and services will make a positive difference to their lives. We draw on the testimonies of experts by experience who bravely describe the impact these lived experiences can have. We thank them for their contributions.

We also know that these issues exist across all of society and that we need everyone - residents, statutory agencies, communities, charities, faith-based organisations and businesses - to work together to make our borough safer. For now, and for future generations. We want to create a truly coordinated community response, and for that we need to work together, listen, learn and act.

Action plan and strategy update 2023/24

The strategy outlines Lambeth’s key priorities, goals and commitments as a partnership of organisations and residents. We aim to prevent and tackle all forms of violence and abuse.

Action plan

The annual action plans are developed with the partnership in mind and outline key actions that various agencies within the partnership will deliver to tackle Violence Against Women and Girls in Lambeth.

Our first year’s action plan focused on the foundations needed for this new way of working and to develop the actions and impact measures. We use a standard colour-coded system to show our progress on each action.

Measuring Success

A VAWG Strategy Delivery Group monitors the action plan. The group brings together representatives from a range of voluntary and statutory organisations, as well as experts by experience (residents who have lived experience of gender-based violence). This is to ensure that we are all working together and can address any barriers to the delivery of the strategy.

Recognising the diversity of our Lambeth communities, we have taken steps to translate the plan into various languages commonly spoken in Lambeth.

Our next update will be the 2024-25 Annual Action Plan, which will be published in April 2024. This update will include a colour-coded progress summary, so you can see our impact against the 2023/24 action plan.
