Schools Heat Decarbonisation Plan

In June 2022, Lambeth Council commissioned Retrofit Action for Tomorrow (RAFT) to produce a heat decarbonisation plan (HDP) for maintained Lambeth schools. SALIX funded the study through the Low Carbon Skill Fund.

An HDP is an action plan for organisations to reduce their reliance on fossil-fuelled heating systems through building improvements and by replacing their existing heating systems with low-carbon alternatives.

After completing the study in March 2023, RAFT produced a report that details the recommendation for Lambeth's schools to be compatible with zero carbon by 2030.

The report provides:

  • a comprehensive overview of schools' current energy use and carbon emissions
  • an analysis of the scale of retrofit needed for school estates
  • high-level costing for different retrofit programmes
  • recommended next steps

The full in-depth analysis of the school estate and its recommendations can be found in the report.
