Have your say on the proposed cycle hangar locations

We want to hear your views on our proposed cycle hangar locations in Lambeth. Please see our proposed locations for the new cycle hangars and share your views with us by completing our survey. 

Following the success of previously installed hangars across Lambeth and the high levels of demand, we are proposing to install a number of new hangars across the borough to meet the manifesto commitment of providing 1,000 additional secure cycle parking spaces by April 2022. 

A cycle hangar is cylindrical-like container with a gas sprung locking door to ensure quiet operation. Inside, it has metal bike hoops to which one can lock a bike. Each hangar has the capacity to hold six bikes and takes up less space than a single car. Annual membership costs £42 per space and are available to apply for via the the Cyclehoop website.

Cycling is an important travel option for residents and contributes positively to making the borough cleaner and greener. Cycling also helps to deliver on the council’s wider objectives to reduce congestion, air and noise pollution and carbon emissions. 

Demand for additional bike storage is extremely high in Lambeth, with over 11,300 applications on the waitlist for existing cycle hangar spaces. In addition, large areas of residential roads in Lambeth are currently allocated to the parking of private motor vehicles and so it is important that we also provide parking for residents who wish to cycle and may be unable to store their bicycles at home.

Once the consultation has concluded, we will review resident feedback to gauge the most appropriate locations with the intention of installing the hangars in the first quarter of 2022.
