Autism advice and support groups

There are various organisations in Lambeth that can offer information, advice and support around caring for a child or young person with autism.

Lambeth Information Advice and Support Service

The IASS provides advice on the topics of education, health and social care for parent and carers of children with special educational needs.

Among other services, IASS provides guidance on communicating with professionals, including dealing with correspondence.

National Autistic Society (NAS) – Lambeth branch

The Lambeth branch of NAS runs a monthly coffee morning, a monthly reading group, a weekly young adult social club, summer stay-and-play, and parents' seminars.

They also a have a comprehensive information pack, “Did You Know?” for parents and carers in Lambeth, and also provide regular email updates to parents and professionals.

Lambeth Parents' Forum

This is a voluntary group of parents and carers of children and young people aged 0-25 with additional needs and disabilities.

Their aim is to provide opportunities for parents and carers to influence the decisions that affect their families, and to contribute to developing services that meet the needs of their families.

Lambeth and Southwark Mind

A local charity that provides information and support for anyone experiencing mental distress or mental health difficulties. It is affiliated to Mind, one of the leading mental health charities in England and Wales.

Family Action

Family Action’s Lambeth PES Service supports parents and carers of children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) in Lambeth.

We offer additional support and empower parents and carers who require emotional and practical support, via:

  • face-to-face
  • individual and group sessions
  • telephone
  • email
  • regular communication bulletins.

This will ensure that families with children and young people with SEND are aware of their rights and entitlements, and how to access support services available in Lambeth.
