Early Years Pupil Premium

Questions about the funding

How could this help my child?

Providers will use the money in ways that they think will support your child’s learning and development. This should be informed by their understanding of your child’s needs and preferences.

The funding will help your child to:

  • benefit from extra resources and equipment suited to their needs
  • enjoy a range of new play, learning and activity experiences
  • be prepared for starting school.

How can I measure the outcome?

Childcare settings will have to show to Ofsted how the money has been used to improve your child's education. You also have the right to ask your provider how the money has been used to benefit your child.

Will I be involved in how the money is being spent?

Your child’s key person, as part of their ongoing communication, will continue to talk to you about your child’s time in the setting.

The EYPP will be used to support your child’s learning and development. Your provider may combine the EYPP payments for several children, or work with other providers, in order to fund specific activity or training.

Please note that the payment is made to the early years provider, and your child will have no automatic legal right to the equipment or resources should they leave the setting.

How much is the funding?

The Early Years Pupil Premium is paid at a national rate of 53p per child per hour. It is directly linked to the number of free hours that you are taking up at your early years/nursery provider.

So, if you claim 10 hours per week, the premium will be 10 x 53p (£7.95) per week and around £200 for the year. The EYPP is paid directly to your childcare provider as part of their normal funding claim.

What happens if my financial situation changes?

Once your three-year-old child is eligible for EYPP, they will remain eligible until 31 August. At that point, a second eligibility check will be carried out on your behalf, with no need to re-apply, using the information provided on the original application. We will inform you of any change in your eligibility.

What if my child moves to another childcare provider?

If your child moves to another childcare provider, the funding can also be transferred, as long as you are still eligible.
