Apply for business rates reduction and relief

There are several different circumstances in which business rate reductions or relief apply.

The Chancellor announced in the Spring Budget on 3 March 2021 that eligible businesses will continue to receive 100% Expanded Retail, Hospitality and Leisure discount and 100% Nursery discount for the period 1 April 2021 to 30 June 2021.

The Chancellor also announced a further discount for these businesses for the period from 1 July 2021 of 66% for the remainder of the financial year to 31 March 2022 within limits/caps set for all business premises in England as follows:

£105,000 per business not required to close under the national lockdown restrictions from 5 January 2021,

or

£2,000,000 per business required to close under the national lockdown restrictions from 5 January 2021.

If your business has received its business rates bill and you have not been awarded 66% Expanded Retail, Hospitality and Leisure discount for the period 1st July 2021 to 31st March 2022, please download, print, complete and send us Form A: Declaration for businesses within the Expanded Retail Discount Cash Cap in the UK:

If your business has received its business rates bill and you have been awarded the Expanded Retail, Hospitality and Leisure discount, 100% for the period 1st April 2021 to 30th June 2021 and 66% for the period 1st July 2021 to 31st March 2022. Any resulting liability will be payable by instalments from July 2021 as this is the first date that a liability and payments become due.

Should you not wish to receive these discounts, perhaps due to the potential for breaching the monetary cap as highlighted above, please download, print, complete and send us Form B: Refusal of Expanded Retail Discount Form:

Or, contact us by sending an e-mail to businessrates@lambeth.gov.uk. The discount will then be removed, and a revised bill issued.

These changes will have effect for 2021/22 only.
