Lambeth Made and Black Prince Trust partnership

Lambeth Made has partnered with the Black Prince Trust to offer eight weeks of free coaching and mentoring in both basketball and boxing to young people. These sessions are primarily targeted at marginalised young people, those at risk of offending in deprived communities or those who would not normally be able to access professional coaching.

The Trust has modern, high-quality sports facilities and the opportunity to access these sessions is exceptionally valuable to young people. According to Community manager Jason, "both basketball and boxing can help to improve fitness, self-determination, personal discipline, pride and confidence. No experience is necessary, just a willingness to give it a go with most, if not all, young people finding their experiences wholly positive.”

The Trust's programme is about more than sport, it also follows a structured plan to tackle some of the most pressing issues amongst Lambeth young people today. The Trust has outlined specific goals and opportunities for social impact, based on their research into the social issues in and around Lambeth for young people. Using these objectives for social impact, the trust has created a clear structure for evaluating the impact of the programme. This has shown that young people involved in the sessions have improved social inclusion, health and wellbeing, mental health and employability.

About the Black Prince Trust

The Trust works in partnership with a number of commercial and charitable stakeholders to deliver sessions and programmes for the community – many of which are free at the point of use. The Trust was established in 2011 when the London Borough of Lambeth designated a 2.5-acre site on the Old Lillian Baylis School as a Community Hub.
