Gyms

  • A range of leisure centres are available across the borough. See Active Lambeth run by the council.
  • Green Legacy gyms are proven to raise sports participation in local communities. There are no membership fees, just turn up and work out for free. You can also find free outdoor exercise sessions suitable for all levels of fitness on the Our Parks website.

Looking for something a bit different?

  • If you're over 50 and looking to try something new, see the Silverfit website. It gives you an opportunity to try a new activity that you could end up loving.
  • If you're an overweight male, you can find footballing and friendly competition information to help the fight against fat on Man v Fat. This is ideal for those who find other weight loss programmes unappealing.
  • PRIME 35+ offers free football sessions to 'men in their prime' (aged 35 years and over)at the Black Prince Trust each Saturday from 10.00am-11.00am. For more information, email jack@blackprincetrust.org.uk or phone 074 3204 6752.
  • Females aged 14-25 years old from the borough can find information about moving more and having fun while doing so on This Girl Can.
  • Disability Sports Coach creates sport and physical activity opportunities that have a positive impact on disabled people's lives. Check out the sports offered via Club Lambeth.
  • Young people throughout the community should check out Sports Fusion. It aims to develop the mind through education and learning skills, the body through a health-based approach to physical activities, and developing goals through sports competition.

Apps

  • The Active 10 app - gets you into the habit of walking briskly for 10 minutes every day.
  • Couch to 5K - is designed to get you off the couch and running 5km in just nine weeks.
  • The Sidekick Health app - sets challenges to help you achieve a healthier lifestyle and reduce the risk of developing serious conditions like diabetes.

Help for physical pain

ESCAPE-pain is a free 12-week rehabilitation programme for people with chronic joint pain.

The programme:

  • helps people to understand their condition
  • teaches them simple things that they can help themselves with
  • takes them through a progressive exercise programme tailored to each participant
  • helps people learn how to cope with pain better.

The programme is delivered at multiple locations across the six South East London boroughs. Ask your GP or physiotherapist about a referral, or visit the ESCAPE-pain website to find your nearest class.
